  • From I-95 Bottlenecks to Train Delays: What Woodbridge Commuters Say Must Change

A recent Patch survey revealed widespread frustration among Woodbridge-area commuters, many of whom face one- to three-hour trips to and from work. Traffic congestion on I-95, Route 1, and local roads, along with expensive express lanes and unreliable train service, were among the top concerns. Residents suggested a range of solutions including more affordable tolls, expanded public transit, and road improvements. Most commuters drive, with only a small share using trains, buses, or carpooling services. Common destinations include Alexandria, Arlington, and D.C. (Patch)

  • Grant Boosts Dumfries’ Efforts to Improve Nutrition and Active Living

Dumfries has received a $75,000 grant from the African American Mayors Association and the American Beverage Foundation to support youth nutrition and wellness programs. The town will implement the “Healthy Habits” curriculum through local Boys and Girls Clubs and expand community access to nutritious food and healthcare services. The grant is part of a broader initiative to improve public health in small cities with African American leadership. (PW Living)

  • Developer Unveils Ambitious Plan to Urbanize Manassas Mall Area

A new proposal from Lionheart Capital seeks to redevelop Manassas Mall by adding 1,041 market-rate rental units, new shops, restaurants, and a two-mile landscaped trail. The multi-phase, mixed-use project would transform parking lots and wooded areas into three apartment complexes, aimed at young professionals. To move forward, a rezoning from business to mixed-use urban district is needed. While it lacks affordable housing, county officials see it as a positive step toward revitalizing the area.
