Quick Bites

  • Prince William County Officials Weigh Massive Vint Hill Road Developments

Over 500 acres of former farmland along Vint Hill Road in Nokesville are set to be transformed into residential developments, adding up to 3,000 new homes. The projects, Alderwood at Kettle Run and Longleaf at Kettle Run, follow the county’s 2022 decision to lift zoning restrictions that had limited growth. While farmers welcome the opportunity to sell, residents worry about traffic, school overcrowding, and infrastructure needs. County officials are working to ensure developers contribute to road and school improvements while striving to maintain some rural character in the area. (PW Times)

  • Forever 21 to Close Nine Virginia Stores Amid Bankruptcy

Forever 21 is set to close all U.S. locations, including nine in Virginia, after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Stores remain open during liquidation sales, but if no buyer is found, they will shut down permanently. This marks the retailer’s second bankruptcy, as rising costs and competition continue to strain the business. Virginia locations include Arlington, Fairfax, Woodbridge, and Virginia Beach. International stores, operated under separate licenses, are not affected. Company officials aim to minimize disruptions for employees and customers during the closure process. (Patch)

  • Virginia Lawmakers Urge Youngkin to Approve Paid Family Leave Bill

Virginia lawmakers and advocates are calling on Governor Glenn Youngkin to sign House Bill 2531, which would establish a paid family and medical leave program. The bill, passed by the General Assembly in February, would provide up to 12 weeks of paid leave for medical and family care needs, funded by small employer and employee contributions. Supporters, including small business owners and residents with personal experiences, argue that paid leave would benefit working families without imposing a heavy financial burden. Youngkin previously vetoed a similar bill and has until March 24 to decide on this one. (Inside NoVa)
