• REAL ID Deadline One Month Away for Virginia Travelers

  Starting May 7, Virginia residents aged 18 and older will need a REAL ID, passport, or federally approved identification for domestic flights and access to secure federal facilities. The law, aimed at enhancing ID security, was passed in 2005 but delayed multiple times. Over 4.1 million Virginians are already REAL ID compliant. To obtain one, residents must provide specific documents and pay a $10 fee, in addition to regular ID costs. A REAL ID is not mandatory, but those without it will face travel and facility restrictions. (Patch)

• Sentara Auxiliary Closes Chapter with $63K Gift, Joins Volunteer Services Team

  The Volunteer Auxiliary of Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center has made a final donation of more than $63,000 to support new staff facilities as it transitions into the hospital’s Volunteer Services Department. With a legacy spanning over five decades, the Auxiliary has contributed to numerous initiatives benefiting patient care, staff wellness, and community outreach. Longtime volunteers will continue to serve as part of the hospital’s broader volunteer program. (PW Living)

• Quantico Gears Up for Spring Beaver Survey After Decade-Long Gap

  Beavers at Marine Corps Base Quantico play a key role in enhancing biodiversity by transforming the environment with their dams and lodges. With favorable conditions across hundreds of water-rich acres, the base supports a growing beaver population. The Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Division will conduct a new survey in spring 2025—the first in over a decade—to assess their impact. Volunteers are essential to the effort, and visitors can observe beaver activity along trails near the Potomac River. (DVIDS)
