  • Young Spelling Star Vincent Chu Secures Spot in Scripps National Bee

    Vincent Chu, an eighth-grader from George Hampton Middle School, won the 47th annual Prince William Regional Spelling Bee after competing for three years. He secured the championship by correctly spelling "Eris" in the final round, earning a place at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May. The event featured over 50 students from across the region, with Amaanat Banwait finishing as the runner-up and Ghersey Anor taking third place. Chu credited his success to strategic studying and perseverance, while his mother expressed immense pride in his dedication. (Inside NoVa)

  • OmniRide Bus Destroyed by Fire on I-95 After Flat Tire Incident

    An OmniRide bus caught fire on Interstate 95 Tuesday afternoon after the driver pulled over due to a flat tire. According to the bus service, the damaged tire became wrapped around the axle, producing smoke that eventually led to flames spreading into the passenger area. Fortunately, no passengers were on board, but the fire completely destroyed the vehicle. OmniRide reviewed the bus’s maintenance records and confirmed it had been in proper working condition before the incident. Authorities, including Virginia State Police and Prince William County Fire and Rescue, are investigating the cause of the fire. In response, OmniRide’s contractor, Keolis, is implementing additional safety measures. The bus service also expressed appreciation for first responders' quick action and apologized for any disruptions to commuters. (Patch)

  • Prince William County Sports Leaders Recognized for Positive Impact

    Five individuals from Prince William County will receive the Good Sports Award from the Mid-Atlantic Recreation and Parks Sports Alliance for their sportsmanship and dedication to local athletics. The honorees—two athletes, a coach, and two officials—will be recognized at an awards ceremony on March 10, 2025, in Annapolis. The awards program, named after MARPSA co-founder Dennis Callahan, highlights those who exemplify fairness, respect, and leadership in community sports. (PWC)
